On an oorlich (Scottish for damp and unpleasant) evening, in the grand setting of Ridgmont House, Leyland St Andrew’s Lodge No. 7391 proudly hosted an enchanting burns night celebration, honouring the life and works of the Scottish poet Robert Burns.
Under the guidance of the WM Allan Archer, the event was a resounding success, showcasing the rich cultural heritage associated with this traditional Scottish occasion, truly hailing to the Scottish ties that the Saint Andrew’s name allows.
The evening was marked by a series of captivating activities, with the highlight being the ‘address to the haggis’, eloquently delivered by Brian Goth. His rendition captured the spirit of Burns poetry, enthralling the audience and providing a fitting tribute to Scotland’s beloved bard.
The atmosphere of the event was further elevated by the stirring musical accompaniment of piper Garry Hacking, whose talents have become a welcomed addition to the annual festivities. His renditions of traditional Scottish tunes added an authentic and vibrant touch to the evening, deeply immersing the attendees in the cultural essence of Burns night.
Allan expressed his gratitude to all who attended and contributed to the event, stating: “It is a great joy to see our lodge come together to celebrate such a significant cultural event. The participation and enthusiasm of our members and the strong contingent of visiting Masonic and non-Masonic gentlemen from far and wide made this Burns night an unforgettable experience.”
Leyland St Andrew’s lodge extends its appreciation to all members and guests who participated in this memorable evening. The success of the event stands as a testament to the lodge’s commitment to fostering a sense of community and celebration of cultural heritage.
