Wayne Devlin of Flixton Lodge No 4869, on behalf of the South Eastern Group Book Bank, visited the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to deliver £250 worth of new children’s books thanks to a generous donation to the initiative from brethren of Foundation Lodge No 5394. The books, ranging from toddler books to young adult novels, were purchased from Urmston Bookshop using funds donated by Foundation Lodge.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide such a wide selection of new books to the young patients at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital,” said Wayne. “Reading serves as a wonderful distraction during difficult hospital stays, allowing children to enjoy magical worlds beyond their hospital rooms. Foundation Lodge’s generous donation made this possible and we thank them for supporting our initiative.”
The South Eastern Group Book Bank regularly collects funds and donated books and takes them to hospitals, hospices, schools and other organisations serving children in need across Manchester and the surrounding region. Urmston Bookshop selected an array of engaging, dynamic books suited for children of all ages and interests making sure all children are represented.
The books were delivered to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and distributed towards caring for toddlers through teenagers. Hospital staff will utilise the books as part of entertainment and education programmes during patients stays.
“Access to books is so important for our patients as they navigate treatment and recovery here,” said a hospital librarian. “We are extremely grateful to Wayne, the South Eastern Group Book Bank, Foundation Lodge, and Urmston Bookshop for this generous gift.”
